Dieskova Falls in First Round of Championships

STANFORD, Calif. ? University of Oregon junior Dominika Dieskova lost her opening round match at the NCAA individual singles tournament, as she fell to Inga Beermann of Virginia Tech, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.
“Dominika played maybe the best first set I have seen her play all year,” head coach Nils Schyllander said. “In the second set she had a chance to go up 2-0 and couldn’t get it done then she started to press a little and lost her rhythm.”
Dieskova’s season comes to a close with a 30-12 record. The Bratislava, Slovakia native won her matches than any other Duck in history except Daria Panova, who twice recorded 32 wins in a season.
“For Dominika to make it this far and put herself in a position to win at this stage and to have not gotten a win just makes her that much hungrier for next year,” Schyllander said. “I am proud of the season she has had and how she carried the Oregon banner all year long.”
Dieskova will be back in action Thursday with her doubles partner Ceci Olivos as the pair open play in the NCAA doubles tournament. The Duck duo will face off against TCU’s Helena Besovic and Ana Cetnik.
“They (Besovic and Cetnik) are very good, but so are we,” Schyllander said. “This is a tournament where anything can happen and you just have to give it your best.”
