Three Duck Tennis Players Honored for Academic Success

EUGENE, ? Three University of Oregon tennis players were honored as Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic team members as Thomas Bieri garnered second team consideration and Monica Hoz de Vila and Dominika Dieskova earned Honorable Mention, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced, Friday.
“For the three of them to have the kind of success they had on the court and to follow it up in the classroom speaks volumes of the kind of student-athletes we have at the University of Oregon,” women’s head tennis coach and interim men’s head coach Nils Schyllander said. “The three of them worked just as hard on the tennis court as they did in the classroom and they made great strides in both areas.”
Thomas Bieri was named to the All-Academic second team with a 3.26 GPA. Bieri, the senior from Switzerland wrapped his Duck career with a 9-15 mark in singles play this season, Bieri was 6-12 in doubles action on the season.
Also being honored were two Ducks from the women’s team as Monica Hoz de Vila and Dominika Dieskova were named Honorable Mention selections.
Dieskova, who just completed her season at the NCAA singles and doubles championships won 30 matches in both singles and doubles. She and her playing partner Ana Cecilia Olivos suffered a first round defeat in Thursday’s action at the NCAA doubles championship, after becoming only the second Duck team to make the draw.
Hoz de Vila was invaluable to the Ducks this season stepping into a starting role late in the year when the team was short on depth. She finished the season with a 14-14 record in singles play and was 6-7 in doubles action.
