New Uniforms Drive Web Traffic to Record Levels

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon’s new football uniforms have already made a splash -- at least on the World Wide Web.
In the week since the new uniforms were unveiled June 21, there have been more than 27,000 page views, or “hits” on the athletic department’s official web site, www.goducks.com, for that press release alone.
Wednesday morning at 10:41 a.m., the release, titled “Oregon Takes Next Step in Uniform Development,” notched its 27,113th hit, surpassing the previous front-runner, a recap of last fall’s football game at Arizona, for the top spot among goducks.com’s page views for a single release. As of noon Wednesday, the uniform release’s total had risen to 27,204.
The previous high set following the Arizona football game was likely driven to record levels primarily because concerned Oregon fans turned to the web site for information on quarterback Kellen Clemens, who suffered a broken ankle during the third quarter of that game. Clemens missed the rest of the season, but recovered completely and was the New York Jets’ 2006 second round draft pick.
The uniform release trails only the 2006 signing day, with 38,182 page views and counting, among goducks.com releases for a singular event. Football national letter of intent days rank high at virtually every school, and Oregon is no exception with the last two ranking in the top 10.
Since signing with the Sanford, Fla., based XOS Technologies, Inc., in 2003, Oregon has seen its web traffic steadily rise. Seven of the top 10 releases have come in the last 18 months, while eight of the 10 are football related. The other two are from track, including Galen Rupp’s Oregon debut at No. 5.
Beginning shortly after Wednesday’s press conference all Duck Shop locations began selling the new uniforms to the general public. All four color jerseys are available in the following numbers: 3, 10, 18, 28. Jerseys may be purchased at all Duck Shop locations, online via GoDucks.com (please not that due to excessive demand not all colors may be available online at all times) or over the phone by calling 1.800.352.1733.
