Head Coach Ernie Kent Quotes
“I don’t want to say we didn’t play well at
all, after three games in three days. I look at both of these ball games the
last couple of nights, and I thought we played well in spurts, but the
difference is free throw shooting.”
“When you miss free throws, you let teams get
momentum. Tonight was another hard fought battle. In the second half we played
very well, but we missed free throws. If you shoot a normal percentage, then it
is a hard fought battle and we have a 20 point win. I think it makes a big
difference in the game in terms of the pressure of the game, with a 20 point
lead instead of a 10 point lead”
“We’ve sacrificed our free throw shooting to
work on our defense, and unfortunately it’s kind of bit us a bit.”
“I don’t want to say we were a little fatigued.
I thought we were pretty strong throughout the game. I thought Hairston got
stronger throughout the ball game. Catron got stronger each night out. We are a
very well-conditioned basketball team, and this was a very good opportunity to
strengthen our conditioning.”
“We are playing at a higher intensity now then
we were at this point last season. We can get down the road and look back, and
these are three games, three wins. We can’t get too up or too down. We just
want to get back in the gym.”
“These were three good wins for us. Tomorrow is
a well-earned day off, and now we’re just going to get ready for Portland.”

“Come Pac 10 games, we will have to play better defensively.
We were trading bucket for bucket, but we have to get some stops.”
“They had a good offense. The good shooters on
the perimeter made it difficult for us. Number 42 (Reitz) was a great post
player.”
“We have learned a lot of lessons these past
two games. They were closer than we wanted them to be. But, it’s better to
happen now, rather than later, while we still can fix our mistakes.”
#1 Malik Hairston
“We played some good teams this weekend. It was great for
us, because we are going to have some tough games to play later in the season.”
“I want to play every game hard and try to help
my team in every way I can.”
#50 Joevan Catron
“Three pointers are a part of my game. The coach has given
me confidence to shoot the ball, and I just do what I can to help the team.”
“Reitz was a tough player. We have to play
better defense when it comes to players like that.”
“I try to be a versatile guy. If I have to make
a pass, I’ll make a pass. If I have to score I’ll score.”
Western Michigan Head
Coach Steve Hawkins
“We are preparing for the MAC and it’s a dog eat dog league.
I wanted to make sure we established our personality and if that meant fouling
everyone out that’s what we had to do. I really think we found our personality
in the second half.”
“As we continued to play we found a rhythm and chipped back
but it was just too much Oregon
down the stretch.”
“In seven years I have been at Western they are the best
offensively.”
“I thought Ernie (Kent) made some great adjustments and coached a
great game.”
“All of them pass we
off the bounce, they bounce once and pass straight to three.”
