Basketball Braces for Bay Area Challenge

WHAT’S ON TAP . . . With the 11th 20-win season (and fourth under current head coach Ernie Kent) now in the bank, Oregon looks to break out of its Bay Area blues on its last road trip of the regular season. Oregon plays at Cal on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in a rare non-televised game, and then faces Stanford on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. in an Oregon Sports Network game.
* Sharp Shooters. Oregon leads the Pac-10 and ranks eighth nationally in three-point field goals per game (9.4). The Ducks are also second in the conference and 12th nationally in free throw percentage (.753).
* Oregon garnered the 11th 20-win season in school history (and fourth under Ernie Kent) Feb. 8 against Arizona State. This year is also the Ducks’ 56th winning season in program history (102 seasons).
* 1,000-point Teammates. Feb. 8 versus Arizona State, Malik Hairston and Aaron Brooks became just the fourth Duck teammates with 1,000 career points to appear on the same floor.
* The Ducks have played 11 league games decided by eight points or less, and have an 8-3 record in those games. Overall, Oregon is 10-3 in games decided by eight points or less this season.
* Bay Area Blues. The Ducks have struggled of late on the trip to California’s Bay Area. Oregon last won at Cal on Feb 12, 2000 (64-60), and were last victorious at Stanford on Jan. 13, 1986 (83-69).
* Time Change. The Feb. 22 Washington State game has been selected by FSN for a national telecast and will now start at 8 p.m.
* Playing Percentages. Oregon is 18-1 when the opponent shoots below 50 percent from the field and 2-4 when foes top 50 percent.
* All five starters are scoring in double figures.
