Ducks Ranked for First Time in Program History

BALTIMORE -- For the first time ever, the Oregon women's lacrosse team finds itself ranked by Inside Lacrosse DI Media Poll. The Ducks earned the No. 20 ranking thanks to their upset victory over the Stanford Cardinal (ranked No. 16 at the time) on February 10 and their dominating performance last Sunday against UC Davis.
The Ducks are also the only team west of the Mississippi ranked in the top-20, as Stanford dropped into the receiving votes category.
The newest poll rankings set up an intriguing matchup for the upcoming week as the newly ranked Ducks will face No. 1 North Carolina on Friday. UNC earned the top spot in the poll despite not garnering the most first place votes. The Tar Heels also picked up a big upset win as they defeated previously top-ranked Northwestern in double overtime on Saturday.
Ducks Head Coach Jen Larsen is a former assistant at UNC and assistant coach Beth Ames was an All-American for the Tar Heels during her playing career there.
Senior Brooke Dieringer just transferred to Oregon from North Carolina after leading the national powerhouse in scoring a year ago.
The No. 20 Ducks face the No. 1 Tar Heels at 6 p.m. on Friday.
