Oregon Softball Heads Down to Sunny San Diego

The 25th-ranked Oregon softball team will put its nine-game winning streak on the line this weekend when it faces the University of San Diego at 3 p.m. Thursday, followed by the six-team Aztec Invitational Friday through Sunday at San Diego State.

Oregon, 9-1, swept all five games at last weekend’s Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, with three of the games halted early by virtue of the eight-run rule. The remaining two contests ended with a 2-0 decision over Cal State Fullerton and a final-day 6-0 win over Utah.
The Toreros enter Thursday’s game with a 2-2 record before also taking part in the San Diego State tournament and facing the Ducks again at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Oregon kicks off tournament play Friday against Siena at 11:30 a.m. before returning to face Long Beach State at 7 p.m. It resumes play Saturday against North Dakota State (2 p.m.) and San Diego State (4:30 p.m.).
The Ducks only loss thus far this season has come at the hands of 19th-ranked Florida in the season opener, 2-1.
They were led last week by senior Ann Marie Topps who pounded out three home runs en route to a 5-12 performance from the plate. Topps is tied for the Pacific-10 Conference lead in home runs (5) and runs scored (12), in addition to being the pacesetter in slugging percentage (1.080).
Elmira junior Alicia Cook has posted a 5-1 record and is second in the Pac-10 with a 0.71 ERA. She has not allowed an earned run in her last 28 innings pitched.
