The No. 42-ranked University of Oregon squad stood in sixth place Monday after the first round of the Fresno State Invitational, held at the Copper River Country Club.
The Duck women shot a 21-over 309 Monday and were 12 strokes back of the leader, No. 35 UC Irvine (297). Other teams in the top five included Fresno State (second, 299), No. 49 Hawai’I (third, 303), Long Beach State (fourth, 307) and Colorado (fifth, 308). The highest ranked team in the field, No. 5. Denver, trailed in a tie for 13th place (315).
Returning event champion Selanee’ Henderson of UC Irvine stood in a three-way tie for the lead with a par 72 with teammate Jane Chin and Dominique Pytlewski of Colorado. Four players followed in a tie for fourth place, one shot back with one-over scores of 73.
Duck junior Victoria Wenslow paced the Ducks in Monday's first round with a three-over 75 and stood in a tie for 10th place. The Bunkeflostrand, Sweden native shot birdies on the par 4 ninth and 16th holes, carded bogeys on par 4 first and fifth holes, added a double-bogey on the par 4 12th hole, and shot par on the remaining 14 holes.
Coincidentally, Wenslow also led the Ducks in both of her rounds last year in the same invitational last year (24th-tie, 72-74-146) – also held at the Copper River Country Club.
Other Duck entries Monday included freshman Felicia Eastick (16th-tie, 76), senior Therese Wenslow (29th-tie, 78), sophomore Cathryn Bristow (50th-tie, 80) and freshman Kate Hildahl (73rd-tie, 82).
