No. 20 Ducks Joust with No. 13 Johns Hopkins This Week

This Week: The No. 20 Ducks (7-3, 2-0 MPSF) take to the road for spring break as they begin their sojourn by facing the No. 13 Johns Hopkins Blue Jays (4-2, 1-0 American Lacrosse Conference).
Scouting Johns Hopkins: The Blue Jays are lead by senior attacker Mary Key, who became the 15th player in NCAA Division I history to reach 300 career points mark last week. She currently ranks 13th all-time with 304 career points. In addition, she is tied for ninth with 115 career assists. Last season, Key led the nation with 6.31 points per game - the eighth best total in NCAA D-I single-season history. Freshman Sam Schrum who has scored a goal in each of her first six career games joining five other Hopkins All-Americans to accomplish the feat.
Ducks vs. Blue Jays: Last year, the Ducks and Jays played in the first ever women’s lacrosse match in Hawaii, with the then No. 3-ranked JHU getting the 15-7 win. Seven different Ducks scored in that match, including Jana Bradley, Cara Mead, Theresa Waldron and Erin Gaebe as well as Ilsa van den Berg, Sarah McDonald, Alicia Burhart.
.500 and Beyond: With their win over Colgate, the Ducks program record moved to 23-23 (.500) for the first time since its inception in 2005.
Sweet Home Cookin’: The Ducks finished out their home season undefeated (6-0, 2-0 MPSF) this year at Pape’ Field, marking the first undefeated home season in Oregon history.
The Ducks take to the road for the rest of the season, as they enter MPSF play and the MPSF tournament which will be held in Davis, Calif.
Take a Debow: Goalkeeper Sam Debow and the Duck defense have excelled since Oregon’s starting goalie Anna Poponyak went down. Debow is ranked 25th in the nation in goals allowed per game (10.02), while the Ducks rank 19th in the nation in scoring defense (9.20 goals allowed per game).
Poponyak is out following a knee injury in the Ducks’ match against UMBC in which an attacker fell on the sophomore ten minutes into the game. Poponyak suffered a partially torn ACL and will make a decision on her future this season soon.
Ducks Making a Splash: In addition to the above accolades, the Ducks’ 7-3 start has them in the top of the NCAA mix in many statistical categories, including:
Scoring Margin: 23rd (2.60 GPG)
Win Percentage: 18th (.700)
Caused Turnovers: 29th (9.00 pg)
Individual:
Assists: Theresa Waldron, 22nd (1.50 apg)
Individual Game Highs:
Most Points: Theresa Waldron, T-8th (8 points; UVM, 3/12)
Most Assists: Theresa Waldron, T-4th (5 asst.; UVM, 3/12)
Team Game Highs:
Goals: T-5th, 20 goals versus Vermont, 3/12
Best Start EVER: The Ducks’ 7-3 start to the season is the best in program history. Last year at this time they held a 5-5 record and in 2005 began the year with a 2-8 record.
