Ducks Back in the Pac-10 Against UW, WSU

This Week: The No. 23 Ducks (10-4, 0-2 Pac-10) move back into Pac-10 play as they head north to Washington to begin their spring break travels. They will face the No. 42 Washington State Cougars (11-7, 1-5 Pac-10) on Sunday and the Washington Huskies (1-10, 0-5 Pac-10) on Tuesday. Both matches are scheduled for noon starts.
Scouting Washington State: The top of the lineup is the strength of the Cougars. At the No. 1 position, Ekaterina Burduli has amassed a 17-12 overall record, though she is only 7-9 in dual matches. At No. 2, Amy Toth is 10-6 in duals, while at the No. 3 position, Marjolein van de Ven is 11-5 on the year.
Ducks vs. Cougars: The Ducks have already defeated the Cougars once this year, 6-1, in a dual match in Eugene. The Ducks swept the doubles point and were dominant in singles as only Carmen Seremeta lost for the Ducks. Dominika Dieskova was the only Duck taken to extra time as she won her match in a super tiebreaker. For a more detailed recap, see match description later in release.
Scouting Washington: The Huskies have played nine matches against ranked opponents and they have dropped every single one of them. Their lone win on the year was a 4-3 victory over the University of Illinois. They are led by Joyce Ardies, who has played at the No. 3 position most of the year. The freshman has compiled a 9-9 record on the year.
Ducks vs. Huskies: Last year, the Ducks swept the season series with the Huskies, winning the match in Seattle, 5-2, and the match in Eugene, 6-1. In their last meeting (in Eugene), the Ducks swept the doubles point while only losing six games in the three matches, but had to work to get the team victory as three of the singles matches went to a third set.
The Greatest?: Senior Dominika Dieskova has now moved into first all-time on Oregon’s career matches played list with 134, passing the previous record of 120 held by Alina Wygonowska. With a current career record of 83-52, the Bratislava, Slovakia native needs 11 wins to move into first place all-time in career wins. With 10 matches to go before the Pac-10 championships, Dieskova will need every win she can get in order to reach the record.
The Greatest Doubles Pair?: Ana Cecilia Olivos and Dieskova became the winningest doubles pair in Oregon tennis history with their win over Texas Tech’s pair of Lakann Wagley and Anne-Sophie Fankam on Jan. 26, 2007. They currently hold a 11-3 record through the spring season and sit atop the career wins list with an astonishing record of 44-18.
