Band and Cheerleaders Sport Cancer-Fighting Hats En Route to NCAA Men?s Basketball Tournament Game

Eugene, Ore. (March 21, 2007) – The bright yellow caps worn by members of the Oregon Ducks band and spirit squad at Eugene Airport this afternoon when they board the men’s basketball team’s charter flight to St. Louis are more than a fashion statement. Rather, the hats are a display of the ongoing effort to defeat cancer in adolescents and young adults.
The band and spirit squad members are reminding Ducks fans of the continuing campaign to raise funds for cancer research through the sale of the limited edition University of Oregon LIVESTRONG® baseball-style caps. The band and spirit squad are scheduled to board the aircraft between 1:30 and 2 p.m. today.
“We all have a serious case of Duck Fever right now,” said Rob Quesnel, American Family Insurance’s state sales director for Oregon. “I’m proud that these young adults are supporting this incredibly worthy cause, which will have an impact on so many of their peers.”
Corporate sponsor American Family Insurance teamed up with the University of Oregon, University of Oregon Bookstore and the Lance Armstrong Foundation to provide the caps, which are available for $20, with about $10 from each hat sale donated to researchers in the area of adolescent and young adult cancer. The hats can be purchased from any American Family agent, the University of Oregon Bookstore and Duck Shop, and at goducks.com.
Proceeds from the cap sales will be distributed to the Oregon Health & Science University Cancer Institute's Adolescent and Young Adult cancer program, the University of Oregon Institute of Molecular Biology, and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
