No. 24 Ducks in the Desert for a Pair of Pac-10 Duals
This Week: The No. 24 Ducks (12-8, 0-5 Pac-10) take to the road for their final trip of the regular season as they head to the desert to take on No. 44 Arizona and No. 22 Arizona State.
Scouting Arizona: No. 44 Arizona (8-12, 2-4) has lost six straight matches, but all came at the hands of opponents ranked in the Top 25. Their top player, No. 91 ranked Danielle Steinberg, and their second position player, Juliette Mavroleon have both been on hot streaks recently. Steinberg recently defeated #22 Rita Zalameda of UCLA (6-4, 6-1) and #10 Lindsey Nelson of USC (6-4, 7-6(4)). Mavroleon has thrived recently as well, upsetting No. 49 Tracy Lin of UCLA (6-2, 6-4) and No. 12 Sarah Fansler of USC (7-5, 6-3).
Ducks vs. Wildcats: In one of the tightest matches of last season, the Ducks fell, 4-3, to the Wildcats. The Ducks fell in the doubles point despite winning at the top spot and leading, 6-3, at the No. 3 position. That would turn out to be the difference in the match as the teams would split the singles matches, with Dieskova, Seremeta, and Hoz de Vila all picking up victories.
Scouting Arizona State: Facing the top teams in the Pac-10 recently, the Sun Devils (10-9, 3-3) have lost three out of their last four matches, defeating #13 UCLA between losses to #8 California, #1 Stanford, and #7 USC. The Sun Devils are led by #34 Nadia Abdala, a freshman playing at the No. 2 position who has compiled a 20-8 record, including recent defeats of #47 Yasmin Schnack of UCLA and #21 Anne Yelsey of Stanford. Playing at the top position for the Sun Devils is #72 Sabrina Capannolo, a senior who has compiled a 7-11 dual record while losing nine of her last ten matches, with all of her losses coming against ranked opponents.
Ducks vs. Sun Devils: Last year, the Sun Devils handed the Ducks a 6-1 defeat as Dominika Dieskova was the only Duck to pick up a victory, defeating Cappannolo at the top spot in the lineup. All other Ducks fell in straight sets.
