Brandel Named GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week

Oregon senior Ryan Brandel has been named the GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of April 8th to April 14th.
In the Mt. SAC Relays Sunday, the Milwaukie, Ore., native climbed to third all-time for Oregon with his runner-up mark and 12 foot, five inch personal best in the invitational javelin section (238-0, 72.54m). The returning Pac-10 scorer now only trails former Duck NCAA champions John Stiegeler (252-10, 2001) and Art Skipper (251-8, 1992) in UO history.
Before last weekend, only one other collegian – North Carolina senior Justin Ryncavage – had thrown farther (240-6) in ’06 than the second-year Duck. The Milwaukie, Ore., native Brandel owned a prior personal best and winning mark (225-7) from the ASU Clif Bar Invitational in late March that previously ranked him sixth all-time for UO.
Brandel was the top collegiate finisher in Sunday’s event in the Los Angeles area, and is undefeated so far this year vs. collegians in his other appearances in the Oregon Preview (first, 213-2) and Pepsi Team Invitational (first, 218-9).
