Women Await Weekend Against Washington

Scouting Washington: The Huskies (2-16) have yet to win a Pac-10 dual meet, although they came within a set of beating Washington State. At the Huskies’ top position, Mathilde Cor has won four of her last six matches after beginning the season losing seven of eight.
Ducks vs. Huskies: The Ducks and Huskies met earlier in the year, with the Ducks taking the dual match, 5-2. Senior Dominika Dieskova will be looking for revenge at the top position, as she fell to Mathilde Cor, 6-2, 6-1. Ana Cecilia Olivos, Monica Hoz de Vila, Anna Powaska, and Claudia Hirt all picked up wins for the Ducks against Washington. Oregon also swept the doubles point with Dieskova and Olivos playing the closest match as the were taken to a tiebreak by Joyce Ardies and Cor.
LAST TIME OUT: Arizona State’s two ranked players were dominant at the top of the lineup and the No. 36 Ducks could not break through against the No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devils as they fell, 7-0, in a Pac-10 dual match.
With the loss, the Ducks fall to 12-11 on the year while the Sun Devils move to 11-9.
No. 72 ranked Sabrina Capannolo defeated Oregon’s top player, Dominika Dieskova, at the number one position, 6-1, 6-2, as the Sun Devils mixed their lineup and moved No. 34 Nadia Abdala to the No. 2 position, where she defeated Ana Cecilia Olivos in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.
The Sun Devils were just too hot for the rest of the Ducks as Carmen Seremeta fell to Roxanne Clark at the No. 3 position, 7-5, 6-3, and Monica Hoz de Vila fell at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-2.
Laila Abdala completed the sweep for the Sun Devils with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Anna Powaska. The Ducks were again forced to forfeit the No. 6 match.
ASU won the doubles point as Oregon forfeited the No. 3 match and the 12th-ranked pair of Kady Pooler and Clarke defeated Oregon’s top pair of Dieskova and Olivos, 8-4. Powaska and Hoz de Vila would also fall in their doubles match against Capannolo and Jessica Leitch, 8-2.
The Greatest?: Senior Dominika Dieskova has now moved into first all-time on Oregon’s career matches played list with 136, passing the previous record of 120 held by Alina Wygonowska. With a current career record of 85-56, the Bratislava, Slovakia native needs 9 wins to move into first place all-time in career wins. With 1 match to go before the Pac-10 championships, Dieskova will need to have a strong showing at the Pac-10 Tournament to make her the all-time leader.
The Greatest Doubles Pair?: Ana Cecilia Olivos and Dieskova became the winningest doubles pair in Oregon tennis history with their win over Texas Tech’s pair of Lakann Wagley and Anne-Sophie Fankam on Jan. 26, 2007. They currently hold a 15-7 record through the spring season and sit atop the career wins list with an astonishing record of 48-22.
