It’s the Pac-10
Pacific-10 Conference teams are used to beating up on one another, and that trend continued last weekend. Fourth-ranked Arizona finished the week 3-1, dropping its midweek game to Arizona State before sweeping the weekend with victories over Oregon State and Oregon. Junior Taryne Mowatt was in the circle for all three wins.
Arizona State picked up a 6-3 win over the rival Wildcats midweek, before finishing the weekend 2-1. Burkhart picked up the wins against Arizona and Oregon, before Saturday’s 2-0 loss to the Beavers. OSU and the Sun Devils then battled for 11 innings on Sunday, with ASU eventually nabbing the 8-7 win.
UCLA and Washington traveled to the Bay Area, visiting Stanford and Cal. The 12th-ranked Bruins got off to a slow start after a 6-4 loss to the Cardinal, before ending the trip with two wins at Cal.
The No. 13 Huskies also finished the weekend 2-1, sandwiching a one-run loss to Stanford on Saturday, between a 4-2, eight-inning victory over Cal on Friday and a 12-1, six-inning victory over the Cardinal on Sunday.
Oregon struggled to find its offense in Arizona, scoring a combined four runs in three games. The Ducks have lost their last six conference games.
Oregon State’s three games in Arizona were decided by a total of five runs. The Beavers were shut out in a 2-0 loss to Arizona on Friday, before coming back with a 3-1 victory at ASU on Saturday. OSU then lost an 11-inning, 8-7 decision to the Sun Devils.
Stanford finished 2-1, defeating UCLA and splitting two games with Washington, and Cal dropped all three on its home field.
