Eastick Leads Golfers in Indiana Invite First Day
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 54-ranked University of Oregon women’s golf team stood in 10th place Monday after the first round of the Indiana Invitational, held at Crooked Stick Golf Course.
The Ducks shot an opening round of 314 on the par 72, 5,938-yard course, while No. 23 Michigan State led the field (299) and was followed by Illinois (second, 304), Texas (third, 307) and No. 43 Michigan (fourth, 308). Other ranked teams in the 17-team field included No. 32 Northwestern (seventh, 311), No. 48 Indiana (eighth, 312) and No. 31 UNLV (16th, 323).
The tournament was supposed to feature two rounds on Monday, but frigid temperatures shortened the first day to a single round.
Freshman Felicia Eastick was the top Duck and was tied for eighth overall (75) Monday. The Queensland, Australia native shot par on 15 holes and carded bogeys on the 13th, 16th and 17th holes.
UO’s other three scorers included sophomore Cathryn Bristow (30th-tie, 78), senior Kim McCready (46th-tie, 80) and junior Victoria Wenslow (54th-tie, 81), while freshman Kate Hildahl rounded out UO’s contingent (80th-tie, 85).
McCready’s appearance Monday was the first in nearly two months after she missed the last tournaments with a wrist injury. Among her other fall and season appearances, the former All-Pac-10 honorable mention selection has led UO in eight of her 15 rounds of duty.
Overall Monday, Illinois’ Seul Ki Park owned a two-stroke lead on the field with her even-par 72 first round in the Indiana University-hosted event. Six players followed in a tie for second at 74.
