Three Ducks Named to IWLCA Regional Second Team

Senior transfer Brooke Dieringer, junior Jen May and sophomore Alicia Burkhart have been named to the Midwest/West All-Region Second Team, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association announced Thursday.
Dieringer, a transfer North Carolina, provided the Ducks with leadership and experience as well as a great scorer's touch. The Davidsonville, Md. native was second on the team in goals (32) and points (42).
May, one of the Ducks' captains, tallied 39 points on the year from the midfield, netting 22 goals and assisting on 17 others. Her 134 career points is the currently the school record as she heads into her senior season next year.
Burkhart was a stalwart on the defensive third all year for the Ducks as she led the team in ground balls collected (48) and was second in caused turnovers (23). The Eldersburg, Md. native also was key in helping the Ducks control possession as she collected 38 draw controls on the year, also second on the team. Only a sophomore, Burkhart also played the most minutes of any Duck, remaining on the field for 970 minutes, about 85 percent of the team's total minutes.
The IWLCA honored 128 student-athletes in Division I with inclusion on one of eight All-Regional teams, with each of the four regions, the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, South, and West/Midwest naming a first and a second team. All 128 athletes are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams, which will be announced on May 29. The IWLCA and US Lacrosse will honor the National All-Americans at an awards banquet on June 16, 2006 in Downingtown, Pa.
All three of the Ducks were named to the Mountain Sports Federation All-Conference Team, along with sophomore attacker Ilsa van den Berg. May and Burkhart were also both named to the All-MPSF Tournament Team.
The Ducks finished the season with the best record in school history at 12-7 and a second place finish in the conference.
