Student Athlete of the Week - Sept. 24-30

Heather Meyers has been named the GoDucks.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 24-30.
In just her third and fourth career Pac-10 matches, the freshman from Temecula, Calif., contributed in a big way in Oregon's road sweep of the Arizona schools this past weekend. Against Arizona State on Thursday, Meyers had 11 kills and three service aces and added another 14 kills, three service aces, and a .440 attacking percentage in Friday's victory over Arizona.
For the first time in two decades, the 21st-ranked Oregon volleyball team left the state of Arizona with two victories under its belt, completing the conquest with a three-game sweep (30-21, 31-29, 31-29) of the Wildcats. The Ducks improve to 14-2 overall and 3-1 in the Pacific-10 Conference, their best start since the 1987 squad began league play with six straight victories. That season was also the last time Oregon picked up two victories on the road in Tempe and Tucson.
The Meyers File
Freshman outside hitter Heather Meyers is the second Volleyball Magazine ?Fab 50’ recruit for Jim Moore during his time here at Oregon, the first being Sonja Newcombe. And just like Newcombe made a vital impact a year ago, Meyers looks to be starting her collegiate career in a similar fashion. The Temecula, Calif., native was named to the Kickoff Classic all-tourney team, earned the Tournament MVP award at the Baylor Invitational and was named the top server at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter leads Oregon with a .392 (131-37-240) attacking percentage, ranking sixth in the Pac-10. She is also second in the Pac-10 with 0.48 service aces per game. The left-hander is currently averaging 2.98 kills and 3.80 points per game, recording six matches with double-figure kills.
