Oregon Wraps Up Road Trip In California

EUGENE, Ore. --The University of Oregon men’s tennis team wraps up its six game road trip this weekend in Southern California. The Ducks will play UC Irvine in Irvine, Calif. Saturday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., and then make the short trip over to Santa Barbara to play UC Santa Barbara Sunday, Feb. 24 at Noon.

QUICK HITS
The Ducks have now earned splits on consecutive road trips aftera 7-0 defeat of Northern Arizona and a 6-1 loss to No. 49 New Mexico last weekend.
The sweep of Northern Arizona was Oregon’s first of the season.
After finishing a combined 23-46 last season in doubles action, Oregon has a 17-10 doubles record so far in 2008. Oregon has swept the doubles point four times, and won it in six of nine matches.
The pairing of Alexander Cornelissen and Mike Myrhed suffered their first loss of the season against New Mexico, but their record still stands at 7-1 at the No. 2 doubles spot.
The bottom three spots in singles played to a 4-2 record last weekend. On the season, the 4-6 singles spots hold a 19-8 record, while the record at the top three positions is 10-17.
The Ducks did not play in a three set match last weekend in Albequerque. Oregon’s record in three set matches on the season is 3-6.
Oregon will close out a six game road trip this weekend, with the time in between home matches spanning 26 days. Last spring, Oregon went through a 35 day stretch without playing in Eugene, from February 11th to March 17th.
GETTING TO KNOW UC IRVINE
The No. 63 Anteaters have compiled a 2-3 record this spring, all against ranked opponents. In last week’s lone match, they defeated No. 74 San Diego 4-3 for their first road victory of the season. Their other win of the spring came Feb. 7 against then No. 27 Boise State, 4-3. Senior Victor Lamm is ranked 30th in the West Region in the latest ITA rankings.
GETTING TO KNOW UC SANTA BARBARA
UC Santa Barbara opened the season Jan. 20 in Hawaii, losing 4-3 to the team that the Ducks defeated 4-3 Feb. 9 in Fresno, Calif. The Gauchos lost to Oregon’s Pac-10 rival No. 27 Washington 7-0 Feb. 8 in Seattle. The match against Oregon will only be Santa Barbara’s fifth match of the season, and only their second at home, as they beat Loyola Marymount last weekend, 7-0, in their first match not on the road.

UC Irvine is currently ranked as the No. 63 team in the nation. UC Santa Barbara is unranked. Currently seven teams from the Pacific-10 conference are ranked in the top 50; No. 6 UCLA, No. 7 USC, No. 27 Washington, No. 29 Cal, No. 34 Arizona State, No. 37 Stanford, and No. 48 Arizona.
