Soccer Announces Spring Schedule, Signee

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon’s exhibition spring soccer season begins next Saturday against Portland State and will run through May 10, head coach Tara Erickson announced Friday.
Erickson also announced an addition to the 2008 recruiting class with the signing of forward Brittany Westrum of Los Altos, Calif.
The current Ducks will open the spring March 8 against Portland State at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.
The spring exhibitions also include Portland on April 12 in the Rose City and the USA Under-15 National Team April 18 at Stanford.
Oregon will then play in a tournament featuring three 25-minute games April 19 at Stanford.
The Ducks return home for their final two exhibitions, Oregon State on May 2 and Seattle University on May 10.
Westrum becomes the sixth member of the 2008 recruiting class. She is a three-time Northern California club champion for MVLA Mercury.
"Brittany is a bit of a late find because of some injuries she’s had," said Erickson. "But we think she has a tremendous upside and her game will continue to improve in the college environment."
The 5-9 Westrum led Los Altos High School to back-to-back division championships. Los Altos was 18-2-0 in 2006 and 16-1-5 in 2007, when it won the CIF-CCS Division I championship. She is a two-time all-league first team selection.
"I like her size and she is a very good runner," said Erickson. "She has the potential to develop into someone who can help us on the outside either at forward or in the midfield."
Westrum, who was also a four-year letterwinner in cross country, is the cousin of Jeffrey Maehl, who played wide receiver as a freshman for the Oregon football team last fall.
She joins Canadian Senior National Team member Julie Armstrong of Delta, B.C., Cody Miles of Salem, Ore., Taylor Jones of Newport Beach, Calif., Haley Wilson of Ventura, Calif., and Lauren Thompson of Edmonds, Wash., in the 2008 recruiting class.
