Men?s Golf Hosts 20th Annual Oregon Duck Invitational

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon will host the 20th annual Oregon Duck Invitational men’s golf tournament Monday and Tuesday at the par-72, 7,093-yard Emerald Valley Golf Course in Creswell, Ore. It will be the first time that the Duck Invitational has been played at Emerald Valley since 1991. Competition will begin at 8 a.m. each day with a shotgun start. The tournament is open to the public and admission is free.
The 2008 Duck Invitational will feature 11 teams: Arkansas, UC Davis, Idaho, Northern Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Pacific, Portland, San Diego State, Washington and Washington State. The Aztecs, who won the 2006 event which was played at Shadow Hills, are the highest-ranked team in the field according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll, coming in at No. 35. Arkansas is right behind SDSU at No. 36, while the Beavers, ranked 41st, are the other top-50 team in the field.
Oregon will stick with the same line-up that has produced a half-dozen top-four finishes this season. That quintet includes seniors Joey Benedetti and Derek Sipe and freshmen Jack Dukeminier, Sean Maekawa and Isaiah Telles.
In last season’s Duck Invitational, played at Eugene Country Club, Oregon tied Arizona for fourth, seven strokes behind 2007 champion USC (868). The individual medalist race featured a three-way tie for honors at 2-under 214 between Jamie Lovemark of USC, Kevin Chappell of UCLA and Alex Prugh of Washington.
Oregon last won its own tournament in 2002.
