Ducks in Third Place in Regional Preview
LINCOLN, Calif. ? The No. 44 University of Oregon women’s golf team got off the right foot Monday and stood in third place after the opening two rounds of the NCAA West Regional Preview.
The Ducks posted opening rounds of 300 and 292 for an overall score of 592 to trail first-day leader, No. 10 Denver (288-290-578) by 14 strokes. No. 48 Washington State followed in second place (297-293-590).
Other top-60 ranked teams in the Sacramento State-hosted event include No. 54 UNLV (fourth, 301-296-597), Fresno State (fifth-tie, 305-293-598), No. 57 UC Irvine (fifth-tie, 299-299-598), No. 56 UC Davis (seventh, 300-299-599), No. 55 Colorado (ninth, 307-296-603) and No. 45 San Francisco (11th-tie, 304-309-613).
UO’s scores Monday were the seventh and eighth of the spring that were 300 or better (among 11 total).
Junior Cathryn Bristow was the top Duck in the individual standings (fourth-tie, 75-70-145). The Huapai, New Zealand native led UO the second round for the ninth time this season, thanks to her sixth round of par or better in 2007-08.
Two strokes behind, freshman Kendra Little (76-71) and sophomore Felicia Eastick (73-74) tied for 11th overall with a 3-over 147. Eastick paced UO the first round, her seventh low round for UO this season.
UO’s other entries, freshman Erica Omlid (78-77) and sophomore Kate Hildahl (76-77), were tied for 55th with their scores of 155 on the 6,018-yard Lincoln Hills Golf Club course.
Overall, Washington State’s Amy Eneroth led the field by four strokes with her four-under 139 (71-68). Denver’s Katie Kempter (70-73) and UC Davis’ Alice Kim (71-72) were tied for second place at 143, two strokes ahead of Bristow who stood in a four-way tie for fourth place.
Looking ahead, the Ducks return for third and final round action Tuesday. Play begins at 8 a.m., and scores will be regularly updated at the www.GolfStat.com website, and final results after the round will be archived at the www.HornetSports.com website.
