McFadden Posts Season-Best Marks on First Day of Heptathlon
AZUSA, Calif. ? Kalindra McFadden posted season-best marks in all four events Wednesday to stand in ninth place -- and fourth among collegians -- after the first day of the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon, held on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
McFadden, a junior from Bozeman, Mont., was third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.13 and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.37, which was her best career legal time in the event; McFadden ran a wind-aided 14.29 as a freshman.
She also took eighth in the shot put (38-3.25) and 14th in the high jump with a clearance of 5-2.5.
Overall, McFadden scored 3,165 points, one point back of Hawaii’s Anett Wichmann for eighth.
Great Britain’s Julie Holeman was the overall leader with 3,420 points, while Cassie Merkely of Idaho State paced the college ranks with 3,310 points.
Also Wednesday, freshman Brianne Theisen cleared a season-best 5-6 in the high jump to tie for eighth. The Humboldt, Sask., native also tied for eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.49). Theisen scratched from the 200 in a pre-planned move as she will be busy through the weekend in the final three heptathlon events tomorrow and in individual events at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday.
In the California Invitational division of the heptathlon, sophomore Erin Funkhouser was 22nd with 2,649 points.
