Hildahl and Little Top 10 in Pac-10 Champs Day 2

LOS ANGELES ? University of Oregon sophomore Kate Hildahl and freshman Kendra Little staked top-10 rankings overall Tuesday to help the No. 46 women’s golf team hold onto fourth place in the second day of the Pacific-10 Conference Championships, hosted by USC on the par-71, 6,060-yard Palos Verdes Golf Course.
Hildahl carded a career low, 1-under 70 Tuesday and climbed 13 positions into a tie for fifth place overall (75-70-145). Little shot a second round 76 and is now tied for ninth overall (71-76-147).
With her four birdies Tuesday on the sixth, eighth, ninth and 13th holes, Hildahl also shot par on 11 holes and bogeyed only the second, 12th and 14th holes. Her round was the fourth this season when she paced UO, and bettered her previous career low of an even-par 72 that she shot twice earlier this season.
Little followed in a tie for ninth place (71-76-147), and UO also counted scores of 75 and 81 Tuesday from junior Cathryn Bristow (17th-tie, 75-75-150) and sophomore Felicia Eastick (38th-tie, 77-81-158), respectively. Junior Blair Ressler rounded out UO’s contingent (48th, 84-84-168).
UO’s 302 Tuesday was only four off its opening round 298 Monday and left Oregon in a tie for fourth place at 600 with No. 12 Arizona (301-299). Oregon’s score Monday (298) was its eighth of 300 or better this spring ? including a season best 286 at UNLV a month ago - and UO also had five more similar scores of 300 or better in the fall.
In the team standings, No. 3 USC moved up a position into the lead (285-292-577) and ended the day nine strokes ahead of No. 2 UCLA (second, 284-302-586). No. 4 Arizona State followed in third place (296-294-590).
Other teams in the talented 10-team field include No. 17 California (sixth, 301-305-606), No. 23 Stanford (seventh, 302-308-610), No. 48 Washington (eighth, 310-308-618), No. 58 Washington State (ninth, 313-309-622) and No. 57 Oregon State (10th, 317-315-632).
In individual action, USC’s Belen Mozo (71-71) moved into a tie with first-day leader Tiffany Joh of UCLA (69-73) at 142. The Arizona State pair of Azahara Munoz (72-71-143) and Anna Nordqvist (74-70-144) followed in third and fourth place, respectively just ahead of UO’s Hildahl (fifth-tie, 75-70-145).
