Men?s Golf Heads to Pac-10 Championships

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon begins play at the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference men’s golf championships Monday at the par-71, 6,686-yard Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif.
The 49th annual Pac-10 championships is a three-day, 72-hole tournament. The format calls for six golfers playing for each school with the top five scores counting in each round. The first of two Monday rounds begins at 7:30 a.m., with the second round immediately following. Tuesday’s third round tees of at 8 a.m. and the final round also tees off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Oregon’s squad features the same five golfers who have produced 10 top-10 finishes this season. That quintet includes seniors Joey Benedetti and Derek Sipe and freshmen Jack Dukeminier, Sean Maekawa and Isaiah Telles.
At the 2007 Pac-10 championships, played at Eugene Country Club, Oregon finished eighth as Benedetti and Sipe tied for 19th. USC is the defending Pac-10 champion.
Oregon tied for fourth at the Meadow Club in the fall, playing in California’s Alister Mackenzie Invitational. Maekawa tied for 12th in that tournament, while Benedetti and Jack Dukeminier tied for 20th.
The Meadow Club has hosted the Alister Mackenzie Invitational for the past six years as well as the 2001 US Open qualifying, the 1997 NorCal PGA Section Championship and the 1990 NCGA Junior Championship.
Three of the Pac-10 schools are currently ranked among the nation’s top seven in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll. USC is No. 3, with UCLA next at No. 4 and Stanford at No. 7. No. 22 Arizona State is also among the top-25.
