Ducks? NCAA Contingent Grows to 23

EUGENE, Ore. ? Oregon’s contingent for the 2008 NCAA Track & Field Championships grew to 23, plus the men’s 4x400 relay, following the announcement of the Ducks’ nine at-large bids Tuesday. Six UO men and three women received at-large entries to the June 11-14 championships, which will be hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Those receiving at-large berths on Tuesday included men’s javelin throwers Mike Simmons and Alex Wolff, Chris Winter in the men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, Daniel Mercado and Diego Mercado in the men’s 10,000 meters and Jordan Stray in the men’s hammer.
For the women, Alex Kosinski (1,500 meters), Melissa Gergel (pole vault) and Kalindra McFadden (heptathlon) earned at-large bids.
The additional bids give Oregon 13 entries and the 4x400 relay for the men’s competition and 10 women’s entrants.
