Oregon-Utah State Postgame Quotes
“The second and third quarter play did us in. We couldn’t get out of the hole in the third quarter; I don’t think we ever got past the minus 40. They were big playing us, we couldn’t kick a field goal, and we couldn’t get the first downs to get the ball down deep enough. That’s when they really dominated us. It felt like the third quarter lasted forever.”
“I want to give credit to the
“They’ve got a very talented group. They have three quarterbacks that they can play with, which is a luxury in the Pac-10.”
“We didn’t give them much of a battle today, but I thought we started the game pretty well, we created a big play with the fumble in the endzone.”
“They wore us down, especially when we couldn’t make first downs. When your defense has to stay out there and keep going out there, I think that wore us down. They had 88 plays, and that’s a lot of plays with the new clock rule. That tempo and their style of play got us.”
“These are great fans, and it is fun to be in this environment and see this type of crowd. The third quarter was the most disappointing for us. We did some good things in the first half and we wanted to come out in the second half playing. But they way we played in that second half gave us no chance to compete with them.”
Oregon Player Quotes
#11 QB Justin Roper
On keeping focus with a big lead:
Our main mentality is, it doesn’t matter what the score is or who we
are playing, we are going to try and score on every possession. We are
never going to let up.
On getting Dickson involved in the offense:
Yeah, he gave me a little talking to during practice this week. So I
tried to find him and get him a couple balls. But I had to talk a
little trash after got tackled on the one-yard line. I told him ?You
don’t even want to score when I give you the ball.’ But yeah, it was
really good to get him the ball today.
On how he felt during the game after suffering a concussion against Washington:
I felt in control a lot more and I’m sure it looked that way as well.
On feeling like a leader of the team:
I can kind of feel the players gel around me, the offensive line
especially. When I step in the huddle everyone is quiet and focused on
me, which is how it should be. I’m feeling more chemistry and we are
starting to bond as a team.
On Terence Scott becoming a go-to guy for him at wide receiver:
He’s become a very reliable guy. He can shake and make a guy miss, he’s
very fast and he catches the ball consistently which is the most
important thing. But I really have eight go-to guys in this offense
because everybody is so good. But yeah, I had a special connection with
Terence this fall camp and I trust him.
On the team setting a new record for total yards:
It just shows how much potential we have. We made some mistakes today
too ? some penalties, some dropped balls and I threw an interception.
We can improve on those things so if we can have this productive of an
offense with the errors, just imagine what we can do.
#3 QB Chris Harper
On his extensive playing time:
I had a feeling we we’re going to put up a lot of points so I was expecting to get a bunch of snaps.
On his first collegiate touchdown pass:
It was great. I was actually about to run it but I saw Rory (Cavaille) out of the corner of my eye and stopped and threw it across to him. That’s like the last read on that play. By the time I get to that read I’m usually going to be taking off running. I was cutting back and I happened to turn and see him dragging in the back of the end zone and I laid it up to him. It felt good to get one in the end zone.
On the Ducks’ effort:
We played very good today. I felt like we never let up on them. There might have been a couple of spurts where we eased off but we always turned it right back up and we came out with a really big win.
#24 RB Jeremiah Johnson
On his shoulder:
I didn’t really hurt me at all after they popped it back in. I was ready to go back in the game after they did it on the sidelines but they made the decision to keep me out and it was probably better for me in the long run.
Will he be ready to go at Purdue?:
Oh yeah, of course. I’ll be at practice on Monday ready to go. I could have played the rest of this game. I’m able to move my arm really well now so yeah, no problems with it at all.
#9 RB LeGarrette Blount
On getting more familiar with his teammates and the offense:
It’s getting more and more comfortable with the offense and its coming smoothly. I just had to get the jitterbugs out a couple times but now I’m getting more used to the speed of the game and the toughness of the game.
On adapting to the speed of FBS competition:
When I first came in and took a couple snaps in the first game I was pretty nervous. But today everything was smooth and went as planned for me. I’m just playing my game now.
On his long touchdown run:
I just waited in the backfield until I saw the hole and then broke through and ran downfield as fast as I possibly could.
On his feelings after scoring his first touchdown at Oregon:
It was wonderful. I couldn’t imagine anything better. I have been thinking about what it would be like to get into the endzone since I first got here. It’s better than anything I imagined before. It’s overwhelming. I love it.
#40 MLB John Bacon
On wearing opposing offenses down in the fourth quarter:
Our level of conditioning is definitely in our favor. The tempo that we practice at is always going to give us a leg up on the defense. Not only having better conditioning, but having the ability to handle fatigue and mentally gives us an edge late in games.
On the defenses goals coming into the game:
We wanted to make sure that we were physical, more physical than last week. I think we did a very good job at that. We wanted to beat them up front on the line, which we did and we wanted to contain their quarterback and we did a good job at that as well. We had a fairly simple game plan so we could play as fast as possible. We knew they did a lot of motioning and adjustments so we wanted to keep it sample so we could adapt and play fast.
#49 DE Nick Reed
On the strength of the defense:
It all starts with the line. We set the tempo at the front of the play but we have so many good players on this defense at all spots on the field.
On the tackling ability of the team:
We tackle so well because we all run around the field so quickly. Everyone seems to be involved on every tackle. We always know someone else is right behind us when we hit somebody.
On what they have learned about the defense:
We haven’t arrived yet and we still have so much to improve on so I can’t really judge yet. That’s not a bad thing though. We have plenty of time to improve and I think we are in great shape.
#39 S Caleb Taylor
“
“They did everything that we saw on film, and even knew what coming at times. They just executed very well. We were ready for all three quarterbacks, and there wasn’t a lot of surprises there.”
“That interception was one of the points where we executed better than them.”
“We missed a lot of tackles today. At one point we made a mistake a roughed their quarterback, and at other points we just missed tackles. We have to correct those mistakes.”
#27 RB Curtis Marsh
“They did well out there, but I still think we put up a decent amount of points on them. But they definitely played hard and got after it, and are a very talented team.”
“We had a few plays designed to play against their defense, and a few of them we executed and made some big plays.”
“Anytime we get a first down, that lifts the team and the whole offense.”
#12 QB Diondre Borel
“It was a tough environment. This them, they’re a good team and they are ranked. They played fast and aggressive, and it was a lot of fun.”
“Both quarterbacks run the same offense, because we can both do the same things. We run the same plays.”
“I started nervous, because this was a ranked team and a good team. Every game I get nervous, but after a while I get relaxed. It was a fun game, we just need to work harder next practice.”
“We need to play harder in the third quarter. We came out a little flat and gave up a lot of points. The offense couldn’t get the ball in the endzone.”
