Duck Track Sends Five to Big Green in the Desert

EUGENE, Ore. -- All-Americans Brianne Theisen and Kalindra McFadden lead Oregon’s contingent in the Big Green in the Desert, an invitational meet featuring the decathlon and heptathlon hosted by the coaching staff of Dartmouth College that will be held Wednesday and Thursday on the campus of Scottsdale Community College in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Juniors Marshall Ackley and Aaron McVein will compete in the decathlon. Junior Erin Funkhouser will join Theisen and McFadden in the heptathlon.
Most of the Oregon track and field team will resume action on Friday at the Stanford Invitational, though freshman Luke Puskedra is on his way to Amman, Jordan, to represent the United States at the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships on Saturday.
Puskedra, from Ogden, Utah, earned a spot on the American team by finishing third in the U.S. junior championships on Feb. 7 in Derwood, Md.
Puskedra will be the fourth Duck in the junior race in the last five years. Chris Winter ran for Canada in 2004, while he and Galen Rupp (USA) were both in the 2005 race. Kenny Klotz was a 2007 representative for Team USA.
