Duck Feed: One Down, Fourteen to Go

One Down, Fourteen to Go
Tuesday, March 31, 2:00 p.m. PT
The first of Oregon's 15 spring practices is officially in the can. As expected, there are already a few tweaks to the roster that I posted this morning. For instance: Sam Doman, who was listed as a long snapper, wearing No. 17, filled a tight end/h-back role and donned No. 91. The latest and greatest roster can be found by clicking here.
Despite a new head coach and a couple of new assistants, it was pretty much practice as usual for the Ducks. Chip Kelly continued to coach the offense and the various units worked at an uptempo pace throughout. The new quarterbacks coach appears to have made a seamless transition and blended right in with the rest of the staff.
As for the student-athletes, there were no major surprises from a personnel standpoint. LeGarrette Blount sat out with an ankle injury and Nate Costa, D.J. Davis, Willie Glasper, Talmadge Jackson III, LaMichael James and C.E. Kaiser were held out of drills potentially involving contact. Terrance Pritchett rejoined his teammates after serving a suspension.
While I have been known to stay at value oriented hotels, I'll reserve editorial comment as far as who - in my opinion - looked good, bad or indifferent. Without dissecting the game film of today's activities, a few observations: Darron Thomas ran harder and with a different gate than I've seen before ... The collective talent at quarterback is ridiculous (in a good way) ... Patrick Chung may be headed to the NFL, but the defensive backs continued their tradition of doing push-ups throughout practice, particularly when one of their own failed to make a play on the field.
SPRING GAME TIME SET
The time for Oregon's annual Spring Game is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2.
NEW ROLES
Two former players made their debuts as student-managers. Robbie Pestal (quarterback) and Mark Speck (punter) are still with the team, just in a different capacity.
SAME BAT TIME
Tomorrow's practice schedule will be the same as today's. The Ducks finish up Week 1 on Friday.
DAY 1 DEPTH
Since I'm not a big fan of retyping the same information you can find somewhere else, here's a look at the two-deep from Tuesday's practice courtesy of the Register Guard's Rob Moseley.
