Duck Soccer to Play Exhibition Matches at Nike World Campus

EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Oregon soccer team will open its five-match spring exhibition schedule April 18-19 when the Ducks host the 2009 UO Spring Tournament in Beaverton. All matches will be played on the Ronaldo Soccer Field at the Nike World Campus.
Schools joining Oregon at this weekend’s event include: Portland State, Seattle Pacific, Seattle University and Utah. The Ducks will face the Utes at noon on Saturday, before playing against PSU on Sunday in a contest also scheduled for noon.
“We haven’t seen ourselves against any outside competition,” head coach Tara Erickson said. “It will be great to measure the team in a full 90-minute contest against somebody else.”
The UO Spring Tournament features two matches on Saturday and three on Sunday. All matches are free of charge and open to the public.
PSU and Seattle Pacific face each other at 2 p.m., following UO’s meeting with Utah on Saturday. Utah and Seattle U. will open Sunday’s schedule at 10 a.m. That match will be followed by the UO-PSU contest at noon. PSU and Seattle U. will close the weekend with an abbreviated match scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Ducks’ official spring workout schedule began on March 2 and will continue through May 12.
Erickson is pleased with the team’s progress to this point. “We’ve been judging ourselves based on the practice environment,” she said. “I think we’ve done a great job of elevating that environment. The girls have really stepped it up.”
The Ducks will have three more spring contests following the two matches this weekend. Oregon will play its third match of the spring schedule at perennial power Portland on Saturday, April 25, with match-time slated for 2 p.m. at UP’s Merlo Field (Clive Charles Soccer Complex).
The Ducks will close the spring schedule with two home matches at Pape’ Field in Eugene, hosting rival Oregon State on Saturday, May 2, and Western Oregon on Friday, May 8. The UO-OSU contest is scheduled for 1 p.m., while the UO-WOU match is to be played at 6 p.m.
