Little and Bristow Land on All-Pac-10 Teams

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ? After their top-12 finishes Sunday in the Pacific-10 Women’s Golf Championships, sophomore Kendra Little and senior Cathryn Bristow were also rewarded with All-Pac-10 recognition at the Stanford-hosted event.
Little was tabbed as a repeat All-Pac-10 Second Team selection, while Bristow was accorded honorable mention status for the second time (with the other coming in the 2005-06 season) after she was picked to the All-Pac-10 Second Team last season.
Bristow joined former great Duck Paula Patterson (1st-’97; 2nd’98; HM-’96) as the only Oregon players to garner three All-Pac-10 honors, while the current duo joined Patterson as the only UO players to receive multiple first- or second-team acclaim. Altogether, UO players have combined for 24 All-Pac-10 honors since 1993.
Little placed 12th in the Pac-10 Championships Sunday (76-73-70-219), and notched her fifth top-15 finish of the season that included a win in the 2008 fall opener, the Giustina Memorial Classic (69-73-73-215), and third-place finish in the Oregon Duck Invitational (73-75-73-221). The Eugene, Ore., native has led UO in five of her nine collegiate events this season, and ranked second in two others. She carded UO’s lowest score in the Pac-10 final round ? a one-under 71 ? the 13th time that she’s paced UO this season in 27 rounds (and 26th time overall in her career) ? and that same score stood as one of four that rank among UO’s nine best scores this season.
With her 10th-place Pac-10 finish Sunday (75-72-70-217), Bristow enjoyed her best Pac-10 placing among her four trips and led UO in the final standings for the fourth time in eight events this season. Her Pac-10 finish also stood as her third top-10 finish of the season after she placed eighth in the Giustina Memorial Classic (76-744-78-228) and fifth in the UNLV Spring Rebel Invitational (75-75-68-218). The Huapai, New Zealand native has now led UO in nine of her 24 rounds this year (including all three in the 2009 league finale) and has overall led the Ducks 43 of her 111 career rounds. She also played as an individual in the 2008 World Amateur Team Championships last fall (33rd, 10-over 300, 74-76-74-76) and led her three-person New Zealand squad.
Overall in the Pac-10 Championships this past weekend, the No. 36-ranked Ducks’ seventh-place finish (295-294-901) matched their best placing since 2000 (they also took seventh in ’08. On the individual front, Bristow’s 10th-place finish was UO’s highest since Jerilyn White took ninth in 2001.
Looking ahead, the Ducks await to hear the NCAA regional field announcement Monday afternoon, with the events hosted Thursday-Saturday, May 7-9, by Arizona State, Florida and Ohio State. The NCAA Championships follow Tuesday-Friday, May 19-22 at Caves Valley Country Club in Owings Mills, Md.
