Head coach Ernie Kent and the Oregon men’s basketball team will play a road game against Missouri as a part of the 2009 Big 12 / Pac-10 Hardwood Series it was announced recently. The Ducks-Tigers match-up is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. Additional components of the series, including the start times and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
Last season MU went 31-7 overall and advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. Missouri registered a school-record win total last year while also claiming it’s first-ever Big 12 Tournament title.
MU had four seniors on the 2008-09 squad, with three of those players accounting for 49 percent of the team’s scoring output (DeMarre Carroll 16.6 ppg, Leo Lyons 14.6 ppg, Matt Lawrence 9.2 ppg). The Tigers are coached by Mike Anderson who is entering his fourth year on the job.
The Ducks are 0-3 all-time against the Tigers. Missouri defeated Oregon, 79-58, in the last meeting between the two schools on Jan. 4, 1992.
Oregon is 2-0 all-time in the Hardwood Series, earning wins over K-State the last two years. UO defeated K-State, 75-70, in last year’s meeting at McArthur Court in Eugene. Missouri is 1-1 in the hardwood series, splitting its two meetings with California. The Tigers defeated the Golden Bears, 93-66, at Mizzou Arena last season.
The majority of the 2009 Big 12 / Pac-10 Hardwood Series games are scheduled for December 3-6, with three taking place outside the four-day series window. The match-ups are new for 2009, after two consecutive campaigns of the same home-and-away meetings. In 2010, the contests will be return games from this year and take place from December 2-5.
Last season, the two leagues split the Hardwood Series outings, 6-6. In all games played between the two conferences during 2008-09, the Big 12 held a 10-7 edge. The Pac-10 holds a 13-11 advantage in the first two years of the Hardwood Series. A season ago, the 12 contests averaged more than 10,000 fans and in two years games from the event have seen 244,029 fans go through the turnstiles.
