Javelin Throwers Head to Sea Ray Relays

EUGENE, Ore. -- While the majority of the track and field team takes the weekend off, javelin throwers Rachel Yurkovich, Ashley McCrea and Alex Wolff will represent Oregon at the Sea Ray Relays on Friday and Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn.
McCrea and Yurkovich will throw on Friday, with the javelin competition scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Pacific Time. Wolff competes at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday. Live results are available at http://www.tenntrack.com/meet/info/tenn/Sea_Ray_Relays/ or http://www.flashresults.com/.
Yurkovich, a senior from Newberg, Ore., ranks second nationally with a season-best throw of 190-11. She is the defending NCAA champion in the event and has won three straight Pac-10 titles in the javelin. This season, she’s just two inches off her personal best, 191-1, which is a Pac-10 and school record and the sixth-farthest throw in collegiate history.
McCrea, a senior from Coos Bay, Ore., set a personal best in the javelin with a throw of 172-2 at the Oregon Preview on March 21. That throw ranks fourth in the NCAA this season and is third-best mark in school history.
Both Yurkovich and McCrea were 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials participants. Yurkovich was the bronze medal winner at the Trials.
Wolff, a junior from Newberg, Ore., hit his personal best of 234-4 a week ago at the Pepsi Team Invitational. That moved him to No. 5 all-time on Oregon’s career list. He ranks fifth this season in the NCAA in the javelin.
Wolff was an All-American in 2008 after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships.
