Bryant, Jenkins & Skillingstad Receive All-Pac-10 Nods

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ? University of Oregon junior Neena Bryant, senior Sari-Jane Jenkins and freshman Samantha Skillingstad received various All-Pac-10 honors based on a vote by Pac-10 head coaches in an announcement by the conference Wednesday.
As part of the 14-person All-Pac-10 Second Team, Bryant earned the same honor as a sophomore in 2008, and was an honorable mention choice as a freshman in ?07.
The Placentia, Calif., native was tabbed the team’s Offensive MVP for the second straight season in ’09 after she ended the 50-game slate as the Ducks' leader in batting (.314), hits (49), home runs (8 - tied), slugging (.538), on-base percentage (.345) and stolen bases (27) - and the latter was the sixth-most in a season all-time for UO. Career-wise, she ranks fourth all-time for UO in stolen bases (64), fifth all-time in home runs (28) and sixth in RBIs (120).
Among other season stat rankings this week, Bryant’s ’09 stolen base mark (0.54 per game average) ranked 30th nationally and fourth in the Pac-10.
Bryant became the 12th Duck to earn all-conference honors in the seven-year tenure of head coach Kathy Arendsen ? a stretch that includes two first-team honorees and 10 second-team picks.
Among current Ducks, Bryant joins senior and team captain Jenkins as a multiple honoree after the latter player was tabbed a Second-Team honoree in 2007 and honorable mention in ’08 and '09.
The team captain Jenkins enjoyed a fitting Senior Day game last Saturday with her sixth homer of the season, made a sliding catch in the outfield, and stole her school record 96th base in the regular season finale. Her resume as one of UO’s greatest players also includes top-10 rankings for UO in hits (second, 230, and third among active Pac-10 players), runs (fourth, 135), doubles (seventh, 33), walks (seventh, 73) and batting average (10th, .324).
Skillingstad was picked to the 14-person All-Freshman Team after she paced Oregon in nearly every pitching category, including ERA (2.36), wins (12), appearances (37), starts (28), complete games (17), shutouts (4), innings (178 1/3) and strikeouts (170). The latter mark stood for UO’s 2008 Pitcher of the Year stood as the fourth-best strikeout mark in school history, and trailed only the totals of Amy Harris (203, first, 2005; 180, second, '04) and Ani Nyhus (202, third, '03).
Last Saturday, the Ducks wrapped up her seventh season at the helm of the Duck program with a school-best 234-176 mark. Her 20-year, 606-451 overall career record includes prior stops at Mississippi State, Yale, Eastern Illinois and Western Connecticut.
Among other Pac-10 awards announced Wednesday, Arizona State senior Kaitlin Cochran won her third straight Player of the Year award, Washington junior was tabbed Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, Stanford freshman Ashley Hansen and junior Rosey were named Pac-10 Freshman and Defensive Player of the Year, and UCLA's Kelly Inouye-Perez picked up her first Pac-10 Coach of the Year honors.
