Bryant Tapped to NFCA All-Region Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. ? Postseason awards continued to roll Neena Bryant’s way as the University of Oregon junior picked up the program’s 31st All-Region softball honor Thursday in an announcement by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA).
The Placentia, Calif., native Bryant became the sixth Duck to claim an all-region nod in the seven-year tenure of head coach Kathy Arendsen ? a stretch that included four honorees in ’07 and another in ’04.
Among current UO players, Bryant joins senior and team captain Sari-Jane Jenkins on the list of all-time honorees as the latter player from Salem, Ore., was a Second-Team honoree in 2007.
The 25-person team included players from Boise State, BYU, California, UC Santa Barbara, Cal State Sacramento, Colorado State, Nevada, Portland State, Washington, and this year's team marked the first time since 1988 that first- and second-team classifications were not used.
Last weekend, Bryant was tabbed the team’s Offensive MVP for the second straight season in ’09 after she ended the 50-game slate as the Ducks' season leader in batting (.314), hits (49), home runs (8 - tied), slugging (.538), multiple-hit games (13), longest hitting streak (9), on-base percentage (.345) and stolen bases (27) - and the latter was the sixth-most in a season all-time for UO.
Career-wise, she ranks fourth all-time for UO in stolen bases (64), fifth all-time in home runs (28) and sixth in RBIs (120).
Among other season stat rankings this week, Bryant’s ’09 stolen base mark (0.54 per game average) ranked 30th nationally and fourth in the Pac-10.

Earlier this week, Bryant was tabbed to the All-Pac-10 Second Team for the second straight season, Jenkins was a repeat All-Pac-10 honorable mention (and second-team choice in ’06), and freshman Samantha Skillingstad was chosen to the All-Freshman Team based on a vote by Pac-10 head coaches.
Last weekend, the Ducks wrapped up her seventh season at the helm of the Duck program with a school-best 234-176 mark. Her 20-year, 606-451 overall career record includes prior stops at Mississippi State, Yale, Eastern Illinois and Western Connecticut.
