McFadden PR?s in a Fifth-Place Finish in the Heptathlon

EUGENE, Ore. -- Kalindra McFadden capped her senior season with a 41-point personal-best in the heptathlon Sunday at the USA Track and Field Championships, before a crowd of 10,643 at Historic Hayward Field.
The championships drew 38,451 over the course of the four-day event.
McFadden had two event PR’s in the two-day competition, the 200 meters and the long jump, in finishing fifth with 5,821 points to better the score of 5,780 she set at the Pacific-10 championships in May.
The senior from Bozeman, Mont., opened the second day of the heptathlon with a big PR in the long jump, going 19-4 on her second attempt. She then just missed a PR in the javelin with a fourth-place throw of 132-7 before finishing fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.33.
"I definitely tried to get my signature McFadden kick (in the 800), but this is my fifth heptathlon this year, so instead of feeling like I had some kick like I usually do, there was nothing. I just wanted it to be over soon. I’ll take it for what it is though, PR overall, and fifth in the country, which is pretty cool for my last time wearing the Oregon uniform."
McFadden’s total kept her at No. 3 all-time on the Oregon career list.
Diana Pickler won the heptathlon with 6,290 points. Sharon Day was second with 6,177 points, followed by Bettie Wade (5,908), Lela Nelson (5,897) and McFadden.
Junior Jordan McNamara finished 10th in the final of the men’s 1,500 meters in 3:46.08 as one of only four collegians in the field.
Sophomore Melissa Gergel tied for 12th in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 13-9.25. Former Duck Becky Holliday also had a best clearance of 13-0.25, but took eleventh based on fewer misses.
Freshman Brian Schaudt finished 14th in the junior men’s triple jump with a mark of 46-10.25.
Freshman Ashley Potter took 20th in the junior women’s triple jump with a leap of 38-02.25.
Former Duck Britney Henry was fourth in the women’s hammer with a throw of 218-6.
