Rupp, Blood, McFadden Named to Academic All-District Team

EUGENE, Ore. -- NCAA Championships entrants Galen Rupp, Nicole Blood and Kalindra McFadden of Oregon were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 track & field/cross country teams, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Rupp, a senior from Portland, Ore., who carries a 3.87 grade point average in business administration, and Blood were first team selections, while McFadden was a second team pick.
It was the third career district first team selection for Rupp, who is entered in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters for next week’s NCAA Championships. It was also just the latest in a long string of academic honors for the four-time NCAA champion. Earlier this week, Rupp was named the Pac-10 scholar-athlete of the year for men’s track and field and was also a Pac-10 all-academic first team selection for the third time in his career.
Rupp was the 2009 NCAA West Regional 5,000 meter champion and the Pac-10’s 10,000 meter winner. He also finished second in the 1,500 meters at the Pac-10 meet.
Blood, a junior from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., who holds a 3.48 GPA in journalism, was the 2009 NCAA West Regional women’s 5,000 meter champion. She also placed second in that event at the Pac-10 championships and fourth in the 1,500 meters. It was the second career all-district selection for Blood.
Blood is entered in the 5,000 meters for next week’s NCAA Championships.
Both Rupp and Blood advance on to the national academic All-America ballot.
McFadden became an all-district selection for the first time in her career. The senior from Bozeman, Mont., holds a 3.64 GPA in psychology and was the 2009 Pac-10 heptathlon runner-up, scoring a personal-best 5,780 points.
McFadden will compete in the heptathlon at next week’s NCAA Championships.
