The Oregon lacrosse team will start Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play at noon on Sunday when they travel to Fresno State. Oregon is 2-0 all-time against the Bulldogs, defeating them both in the regular season and in the MPSF Tournament last year. The Ducks are 21-18 all-time against MPSF foes.
Oregon knocked off Fresno State by a combined score of 39-2 last season, including the Ducks' first-ever shutout, 20-0, on March 6 in Eugene. This will be the first time the two teams meet in Fresno.
The Bulldogs have opened this season up with seven straight losses and will battle nationally ranked Stanford on Friday before hosting the Ducks. FSU is led by Amanda Cross' 13 scores and Katie Wilbur's 52 saves in the net.
Oregon is coming off of a tough four-game Spring Break road trip, where the Ducks were defeated by No. 19 Hofstra, Delaware, Johns Hopkins and Florida.
In that four-game stretch Jana Drummond netted 10 goals and now leads the Ducks with 31 scores on 75 total shots. Drummond is just three scores away from matching her total last season and needs four goals to jump her own mark and rank third all-time for goals in a single season. She is also near the program top-5 for goals in a career, as her 65 total scores sits behind Kate Fleming's 79 for fifth all-time. Ilsa van den Berg's 139 career goals is the current record.
Alex Breiner moved into the Oregon record books last week, as her 68 career ground balls rank third all-time behind Alicia Burkhart's 88 and just ahead of Casey Rector's 60. Jen May holds the all-time Oregon career record for ground balls, with an insane 209.
Breiner also joined elite company at Oregon, as she now has 101 career points. To jump into the top-5 for career points tallied, Breiner will need to eclipse Lindsay Killian's 112.
Goalkeeper Salliebeth Finnegan moved into a top-5 as well, with her 82 saves this season good for fifth best all-time in a single season.
After the Ducks play their fifth straight home game, head coach Jen Larsen's squad will be back in Eugene at 7 p.m. on April 9 to battle California and Noon on April 11 to play St. Mary's.
