Walker's Pace: Ducks 2-3 in Polls; Pearson Shoutout
Tuesday, April 13, 2010, 5:30 p.m.
For the third straight week, Oregon held steady at No. 2 for the women and No. 3 for the men in the latest USTFCCCA poll.
This may strike some as a little odd being that the Ducks just swept a team ahead of them in both polls - Texas A&M, but being relatively early in the season, the rankings at this point are still a compilation of 2009 season bests and 2010 performances.
Needless to say, one thinge we learned for sure on Saturday at the Pepsi meet was that both the Ducks and Texas A&M have sufficient firepower to challenge for an NCAA championship this June at Hayward Field.
Meanwhile, the 'Pace would like to gave a shoutout to a couple of overlooked Ducks from Saturday. Congratulations to Lyndsay Pearson (the main page photo), who ran a PR in the 100 meter hurdles in 13.82. She finished sixth in a race that saw two women go under the old meet record (Gabby Mayo, 13.10, and Natasha Ruddock, 13.12, of Texas A&M) and four beat or match the current Oregon record of 13.56, set by Brianne Theisen last year. Pearson jumped into the Oregon career top 10 at No. 6 she's just a sophomore, which bodes well for the future.
Meanwhile, freshman Taylor Wallace debuted in the school's 3,000 meter steeplechase list at No. 8 (10:58.34). Now that time is still a ways off from Claire Michel's school record of 10:13.56, but consider this: Wallace is less than :05 behind No. 7 Marie Davis, who held the school record just 11 years ago.
