Walker's Pace: Wolff Named Pac-10 Athlete of the Week
Monday, April 19, 2:52 p.m. PDT
Oregon's Alex Wolff was named the Pac-10 men's field athlete of the week following his win and personal best toss in the javelin during the UCLA dual meet. Here's the official word from the Pac-10:
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: ALEX WOLFF, OREGON (Jr., Newberg, Ore.)
Wolff won the javelin with a personal-best throw of 240-8 to help lead No. 3 Oregon past UCLA 92-72 in Saturday’s dual meet at Hayward Field. That mark ranks third in the nation and second in the Pac-10 this season. His throw also moved him to No. 4 all-time at Oregon.
On a related note, astute Duck track and field fans will note that Wolff is now listed as junior, not a senior. The Newberg, Ore., native is in his fifth year at the University, but was recently granted a sixth-year of eligibility due to medical hardship by the NCAA. Wolff suffered season-ending injuries during both the 2006 and 2007 seasons, but came back to win All-America honors in the javelin in both 2008 and 2009.
