Four Ducks Named All-MPSF

EUGENE, Ore. - The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation announced its all-conference teams on Thursday and a combined four Oregon student-athletes are represented on the two All-MPSF Teams. Sophomores Jana Drummond and Colleen Taggart along with junior Alex Breiner were named to the first-team while Jess Drummond was selected to the second-team.
Oregon's four all-conference selections matches thier 2009 total when seniors Ilsa van den Berg, Alicia Burkhart, Cara Mead and Anna Poponyak were all given the honor. This is the first year that the MPSF has created both a first and second team. Previously, only 16 players were selected as All-MPSF while this season there are 16 first-team selections and 14 second-team honorees.
Stanford's Lauren Schmidt was named the MPSF Player of the Year for the second straight season while Denver freshman Kara Secora was named MPSF Newcomer of the Year and Stanford's Amy Bokker was selected as the MPSF Coach of the Year.
Jana Drummond, the MPSF Co-Newcomer of the Year last season, has improved in nearly every statistical category after her tremendous freshman campaign while starting all 17 games this year. She leads the Ducks this year in points with 42, which is good for second most in the conference. Her 2.47 goals per game average ranks 57th in the NCAA.
She also currently paces the team with 48 points, shots on goal (66), ground balls (38) and caused turnovers (25).
Briener is second on the team in points with 45 and leads the Ducks with 12 assists. She is also first on the team in free position goals (12) and third on the team in draw controls (33).
Taggart has been a leader on the Oregon defense in her first two seasons in Eugene, starting all 32 games of her career. She is second on the team in ground balls (34) and caused turnovers (21) and notched both her first career goal and assist this season.
Jess Drummond has started 34 career games in her two seasons and is one of Oregon's most active midfielders. She is among the team leaders in ground balls (30), draw controls (36) and caused turnovers (13) and has 31 career goals.
Oregon begins the MPSF Tournament today at 6 p.m. with a quarterfinal match against UC Davis. The Ducks defeated the Aggies 14-6 in the regular season.
