Vitek Tabbed to ESPN Magazine Academic All-Region Second Team

EUGENE – Thanks to her hard work in the classroom and on the softball field, University of Oregon junior Kaitlin Vitek was rewarded with ESPN Magazine Academic All-Region Second Team honors in an announcement by the CoSIDA association Thursday.
College sports information directors selected the Valencia, Calif,, native based on her 3.65 cumulative gpa in Human Physiology, and she was one of four, first-team and five-team selections from the Pac-10.
In 2010, she has started 19 of her 32 games played, and her .241 batting average, 14 hits, seven runs, 5 RBI and .310 slugging percentage are all career highs.
She stroked a pair of game-winning RBI’s earlier this year with her sacrifice flies in a 2-0 win over Cal Poly and a 1-0 win over then-No. 13 California. Other season highlights include a 2-for-3 day and double in an 8-6 win over Cal, and 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 efforts in wins over Idaho State and Portland State
Looking ahead to this weekend, Vitek and the No. 19 Ducks (32-14, 7-8) play their final home games of the season vs. No. 3 Arizona (40-8, 10-5).
The two teams will play single games Friday at 6 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. The season finale is also Senior Day, and UO's five-member class will be honored before their final game at Howe Field.
Promotion-wise, Friday’s game is a Go ‘O’ Day, and fans that wear their ‘Go O or Go Home’ spirit t-shirt can receive a general admission ticket for $1. On Saturday, youth that wear Kidsports shirts get in free. Sunday’s Senior Day is Mother’s Day, and mothers get in free.
