Omlid and Hildahl Open Action in Oregon Amateur

CANBY, Ore. – University of Oregon junior Erica Omlid was tied for seventh overall in first-round action Monday in the 101st Oregon Women’s Amateur Championships, hosted by the Willamette Valley Country Club.
The Springfield, Ore., native shot a four-over 76 Monday, and was followed in the overall standings by senior Kate Hildahl (27th, 83) and former Ducks Tiffany Schoning (13th-t, 78) and Cathleen Ward (36th-t, 89).
Overall Monday, former Duck player and head coach Lara Tennant, Amy Simanton (Portland) and Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles) were tied for the lead with even-par scores of 72.

Omlid continued a successful spring stretch run when she played in six of the team’s final seven events. She led UO in two of those 18 rounds that included a career-low one-under 71 in the Pac-10 Championships first round and three-over 75 in the third round of the NCAA Championships.
Hildahl also paced UO in the finale of the Pac-10 Championships with a career-best, five-under 68 and also led UO in four other spring rounds.
Looking ahead, action continues Tuesday with the second and final round of stroke play, and match play starts for the top 32 players in the 40-woman field on Wednesday and continues each day through Saturday’s 36-hole championship final.
