Hostetler, Wolff Named Academic All-Americans

EUGENE, Ore. ? Javelin throwers Cyrus Hostetler and Alex Wolff were named ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Tuesday.
Hostetler, a senior with a 3.62 grade point average in art, was a first team selection. He won his second consecutive Pac-10 javelin title in 2010 with a throw of 253-4. Hostetler led the nation with a season-best throw of 256-6 at the Oregon Relays.
The Newberg, Ore., native also collected his second straight All-America award for his 10th place finish at the NCAA Championships (225-4).
He joins Galen Rupp (2006, 2007, 2009), Matt Scherer (2005, 2006), Santiago Lorenzo (2001), John Stiegeler (2001, 2003), Steve Fein (1999, 2000) and Ryan Andrus (2004) as the seventh Duck to earn All-America honors in both the classroom and on the field.
Wolff, a junior from Newberg, Ore., with a 3.76 GPA in human physiology, was a second team selection. He was an NCAA championships qualifier for the third straight year and finished fourth in the javelin at the Pac-10 championships (235-8). Wolff’s personal-best effort of 240-8 in the UCLA dual meet ranked fifth nationally in 2010.
The two became the 13th and 14th men’s track and field All-Americans in program history.
Both Hostetler and Wolff will compete in this week’s USA Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa. The men’s javelin competition is slated for 10 a.m. PDT Sunday.
