Hasay Advances to IAAF World Junior Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa ? Jordan Hasay finished second in the women’s 3,000 meters Thursday at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships to advance to the IAAF World Junior Championships July 19 in Moncton, Canada.
The freshman from Arroyo Grande, Calif., waged an entertaining battle with Emily Sisson the final two laps of the race, before Sisson pulled out the victory in 9:18.73. Hasay was just behind in 9:18.92 as both runners automatically qualified for the World junior meet. Hasay’s time was also an outdoor personal best by less than a second.
Later Thursday, Hasay dropped out of the Senior women’s 1,500 meters in order to concentrate on the Junior 1,500. The first round of that race is at 9:55 a.m. PDT Friday.
Also Thursday at Drake Stadium, current Duck Elijah Greer and former Duck Matt Scherer both advanced to the Friday’s semifinals of the men’s 800 meters. Greer, a freshman from Lake Oswego, Ore., was fifth in his heat in 1:47.92 and advanced on time, while Scherer, an 8-time All-American for Oregon from 2003-06, ran third in heat three in 1:48.01 to automatically move on to the semifinal.
