Six Ducks Earn District All-Academic Honors

EUGENE, Ore. -- Six members of the Oregon’s track and field teams, including five who will be in competition at next week’s NCAA Championships, have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 8 track & field/cross country teams, as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Five of the six were selected to the all district first teams, meaning they now advance to the national ballot.
Senior Nicole Blood was a first team selection for the third time in her career. The 2010 Pac-10 5,000 and 10,000 meter champion, as well as the 2009 Pac-10 cross country individual medalist, has a 3.47 grade point average in journalism and will be competing in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the NCAA Championships.
Senior Mattie Bridgmon, who will also be in next week’s 10,000 meter final, was also a first team selection. She has a 3.78 GPA in human physiology. Joining them on the first team was junior Claire Michel. The 2010 Pac-10 steeplechase champion is a dual major in romance languages and international business and has a 3.92 gpa.
Junior Brianne Theisen was a second team selection for the women. The 2010 Pac-10 heptathlon champion will attempt to defend her NCAA heptathlon title next week at Hayward Field. She has a 3.37 GPA in business administration.
The men produced a couple of first team selections in javelin throwers Alex Wolff and Cyrus Hostetler.
Hostetler won the 2010 Pac-10 javelin title and currently ranks first in the NCAA in that event. The senior holds a 3.62 GPA in art.
Wolff, who holds a 3.76 GPA in human physiology, also qualified for next week’s NCAA javelin final.
