goducks.com Student Athlete of the Week- Eugene Wong

Eugene Wong has been named the goducks.com Student Athlete of the Week for 6/7-6/11.
Wong paced the Ducks during last week's NCAA tournament. On day one, Wong fired a 3-under 69 on
the 7,395-yard, par 72 course. The sophomore from North Vancouver, B.C.
played the cleanest round among the Ducks, tallying only one bogey
against four birdies. On the final day, he was UO's top finisher, tying for ninth overall at 4-under 212. With his top ten finish leading the way, the Ducks qualified as one of eight teams for the match play portion of the tournament. In match play, Oregon defeated the University of Washington,
3-2, to advance to the Final Four. The match came down to the final pairing on the
18th hole with UO’s Eugene Wong holding a one-hole lead over UW’s Nick
Taylor. Wong pushed his tee
shot right, but recovered to match his Taylor's par and lift
the Ducks into the semifinal against top seed Oklahoma State, which they eventually lost 3-1-1. Despite the loss,
Oregon secured the program's top season in school history with a tie for
third place at the national tournament. Wong was named one of 11 PING First-Team All-America honorees
by the Golf Coaches Association of America following the stroke-play
portion of the NCAA Championships and was named the 2010 Jack Nicklaus
Award recipients as the Golf Coaches Association of America Collegiate
Players of the Year for Division I. Wong is the first Duck to win national Player of the Year honors.
