Catron Granted Medical Hardship from Pac-10
EUGENE, Ore. -- University of Oregon forward Joevan Catron has been granted a medical hardship waiver from the Pac-10 Conference for the 2010-11 season it was announced Tuesday. Catron, who missed UO’s final 28 games a year ago, will be a redshirt senior for the upcoming season.
“We’re really excited for Joevan and our basketball team,” head coach Dana Altman said. “We think he can really help us next year. He has a lot of experience and has worked very hard to return to health.”
Catron played in the first four games in 2009-10 before sitting the remainder of the season with an ailing back. He averaged 5.5 points, 5.8 rebounds per game while playing a total of 85 minutes (22.3 mpg). Catron registered season-highs with 10 points and nine rebounds in the Nov. 15 home win over Colorado State.
“It’s a blessing for me,” Catron said. “It’s also a fresh start with a new coach – to get back out there and finish my career the right way.”
Catron has played in 96 career games for Oregon, a starter in 57 of those outings, averaging 6.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.
