Jones Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon freshman outfielder Aaron Jones
has been named Pac-10 Player of the Week for March 14-20, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Jones proved to be a tough out during the Ducks’ three-game sweep at the University of San Diego. The San Clemente, Calif., native currently leads Oregon batting .329 on the year.
Jones hit .500 (5-for-10) against the Toreros with two RBI and four runs scored despite being walked intentionally three times.
In Saturday’s 6-3 victory during the series opener, Jones was 2-for-4 with a double, and scored what would prove to be the game-winning run after leading off the fifth inning with a double.
In the second game of the series, Jones was 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored, two RBI, and his fourth stolen bag of the year. Jones’ RBI single in the fourth gave the Ducks a 4-0 lead, and he drove in a run in the eighth to give the Ducks the cushion they needed late in the game.
In Sunday’s 10-inning, series-clinching victory, Jones was 1-for-2 with a run scored and was intentionally walked on two occasions.
In addition to leading Oregon in batting average, Jones leads the club with 23 hits, 13 RBI, two home runs and a .486 slugging percentage.

This marks the first Pac-10 Player of the Week honor for Jones and Oregon’s third all-time Player of the Week selection.
Oregon State junior right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio has been named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week.
