Record-Setting Spring Game Extends Beyond Attendance

The University of Oregon’s estimated 43,468 fans in attendance at last Saturday’s Spring Game was not the only record broken as the Ducks’ football team concluded its 15 spring workouts last week in Aut-zen Stadium.
Not only did the crowd eclipse the school’s previous spring attendance record of 25,211 spectators from a year ago, the scrimmage generated record food and cash contributions for Food for Lane County.
Admission to Saturday’s Spring Game was the request for three non-perishable food items per person. Accord-ing to Food for Lane County officials, 68,322 pounds of food in addition to $1,248.65 was donated to the local food bank from the scrimmage. That compares with 46,500 pounds of food and $600 generated from last year’s Spring Game.
In addition, the amount of food generated represented a record for donations to the local agency in a span of three hours.
